One foot in front of another

There is something ironic about paradox  when one presents itself.  You need to wrestle with it and you need to just sit with it.
 
In 1933, the psychologist, Carl Jung, responded to a woman seeking guidance by writing,
 
If you want to go your individual way, it is the way you make for yourself, which is never prescribed, which you do not know in advance, and which simply comes into being of itself when you put one foot in front of the other. ​
 
Discovering my path doesn’t simply mean making it up as I go.  As Taoism teaches, it means discerning the way that is opening to me.
 
This is something best done with others, what Parker Palmer defined as experiencing “solitude in community”.  Formation provides the opportunity.
